Investigations on the soda pulping of mustard straw were conducted as part of a series of studies exploring the use of unconventional materials (mostly excess agricultural wastes) as alternatives to limited wood and bamboo resources. The unbleached pulp production from mustard straw was 35–41%, and the pulp exhibited acceptable strength properties. The material required more severe digestion conditions than rice straw and wheat straw.
